pewag is an Austrian company and one of the world’s leading chain manufacturers. The company proudly boasts its manufacturing tradition that dates back to 1479 – over 500 years! Today, pewag is the innovator in the chain business and leads the industry with innovations such as the Grade 120 Chain – the world’s strongest chain. They manufacture three main product lines – traction or snow chains, industrial chains and tire protection chains.
pewag has been in the United States since 1975 and has built a strong foothold in the North American market. A Nationwide search was held to determine the location of their first chain production plant in North America. Pueblo came in 1st in the competition and will be home to the plant which will encompass 55,000 square feet and create 55 new manufacturing jobs in the area.
Mike Uhrenbacher, pewag USA President, discussed their tough decision in where to locate. “Why did pewag choose Pueblo? There are many reasons, but here are a few,” he said, “access to the supply chain, skilled and qualified workforce, training capabilities with Pueblo Community College, tireless support from Pueblo Economic Development Corporation (PEDCO) and economic incentives from the City of Pueblo.”
In making the announcement, PEDCO Board of Directors Chairman, Andrew Lang said, “pewag really is a solid company and excellent addition to Pueblo’s strong manufacturing base. And, if you talk about stability, this company has longevity with roots that even pre-date the founding of Pueblo as a trading post. We are very pleased that pewag has chosen our community to construct its first North American manufacturing operation and want to thank our community for providing the ½ cent sales tax that makes it all possible.”
A groundbreaking ceremony will be held at their new property located in the MinnequaIndustrial park on the South end of Pueblo on Friday, September 28th. “We believe it is communities like Pueblo that will turn the economy in America around because they are in tune with businesses, their people and markets,” said Mike Uhrenbacher. pewag is just one step in the right direction for Pueblo to continue the recovery efforts for our economy.
The Pueblo Economic Development Corporation (PEDCO) is the organization charged with the responsibility of growing Pueblo’s business and industrial base and creating more primary jobs in the process.
